Blackjack is you vs the dealer. Get closer to 21 without going over. Cards 2-10 are face value, face cards are 10, Aces are 1 or 11. The dealer has to follow fixed rules (usually hit until 17), so you can make decisions based on probability.
The house edge comes from the dealer acting last. If you bust, you lose even if the dealer would have busted too. With basic strategy (the mathematically correct play for every hand), you cut the house edge to about 0.5%. That is $0.50 per $100 wagered. No other casino game comes close.

Two Aces give you two chances at 21. Two 8s (16) is the worst hand in blackjack. Splitting turns it into two playable hands.

Never split 10s or 5s
